This is a great example of

User Generated Content and kudos to William and his colleagues at HelloBC for embracing what is one of the most effective tools for DMOs to utilize. Not only do they integrate visitor information but what I think is potentially even more appreciated, insider tips from local people. Who better to know about the real typical hot place or hidden attraction than somebody living there and loving to show the destination’s attractiveness to visitors. This not only makes it genuine but also presents a great opportunity to include the hosts in the marketing effort. Embrace their know how and make it work to your advantage.

Couldn’t agree more. Other great examples of locals providing the references we all crave are the “Playlists” at and the “Locals Talk” section of Joie de Vivre’s .

Very interesting posting. We – the Austrian National Tourist Office – actually try to “collect” the know how of our colleagues “worldwide” and communicate it in a simple corporate blog.

As we are “experts” of Austria and daily collecting a lot of experiences by travelling through Austria ourselves (f.e. at fam-trips in austria with journalists, tour operators, … ), we started a “culinary-travel”-blog (in german language) a few months ago. 9 colleagues and each month a different guest blogger are posting their “best of” culinary experiences in Austria. Very often we cannot use these austrian “specialities” at our daily marketing-activities, but these insider’s tipps are quite interesting for someone who is planning a short trip with friends for one of the next weekends.

We know, that it is absolutely important to differ between PR and own experience. Therefore – up to our opinion – the blog is real and authentic.

At the first step our goal is to deliver ideas for short trips at the inbound market (to attract Austrian people for shorttrip holidays in Austria), because in Austria eating and drinking is an important motive at the decission process for a short trip. In a second step the postings could also be interesting ideas for short travellers at other markets abroad which are closed to Austria. But we will see how it grows …

What´s your opinion about corporate blog-activities of NTO-or DMO-organisation in general and do they have a chance to succeed …? Thanks in advance for your feedback and at last: I don´t want to use this comment for blog promotion but certainly i would be glad, if you would give me a feedback to our “baby” (http.//
