Web 3.0 or the Intelligent Web

as defined here by Eric Schmidt, Google, CEO is just around the corner, with implications that we can’t quite comprehend today, but it potentially will be a bigger jump than what’s today described as web 2.0

Mr. Schmidt is describing, in part, what is also known as the semantic web. Tim Berners-Lee described the semantic web in 1999 as a web where intelligent agents (small programs)can handle the everyday transactions. More information can be found on the Wikipedia article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Semantic_Web.

At link below is an article I’ve recently published on this subject for our audience in the financial services industry. The expression semantic web has been around for some time but my guess is that it will be catching on in the main stream with more of a marketing term e.g. Intelligent Web, as is now the case with Web 2.0
