On My Way

There is usually not too much positive to write about when it comes to airline travel these days but here is a new service introduced by our neighbors to the north called aircanada.com – Travel Info – On My Way. It offers a whole range of support services in the event of flight delays caused by weather conditions, airport and air traffic delays, which, as we all know, are all too frequent these days. Who knows, maybe one of the U.S. carriers will come up with a similar solution. It wouldn’t be too soon.

How about an accompanying service called “My Baggage is on the Way”. For those of us who have suffered from “meus pera est absentis” which is latin for my bag is lost. Perhaps an online bag tracker that lets you see where your bag is in the World in relation to you.

Did that come across as jaded? 😉

RFID tagging could be a solution, I guess. No, not jaded – based on personal suffering!

Is this an innovation in service or marketing? On a true weather day this “dedicated” group of people will not be able to handle the volume themselves, so the work will no doubt spill over into the general Reservations pool. At which point, AC will be charging some customers for a service that would have been provided anyway. On non-weather days AC will simply be collecting a fee and providing no additional service whatsoever.

@Connected1: As I understand On My Way is outsourced with the service provided by iSeatz. As with insurance, you pay for the eventuality of something happening. Looking at the chart listing the different level of support provided it looks like a service improvement to me.
